REYNOSA, TAM.-

Life-saving fans

REYNOSA, TAM.-
The fan issue has been around since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic worldwide.
And it is that when the Coronavirus enters the lungs, it causes great damage, causing mucus that makes that make it for the patient very difficult to breathe.
That obstruction or feeling of shortness of breath, there may be pain or pressure in the chest, causing an inability to speak or move.
The patient may have had a fever greater than 37 degrees Celsius, dry cough, headache, diarrhea, loss of taste or smell, and even conjunctivitis.
This respiratory failure occurs when there is an inflammatory response to massive viral replication in the lung, which impairs the alveoli. The sensation make you feel that you are drowning, that you lack air and the mechanical ventilator is essential to survive.
The ventilator is a device that works as respiratory support for patients when they are unable to do it on their own or have difficulty doing this.
The process is called mechanical or assisted ventilation and may be required in an emergency, due to illness or complications of the Covid-19.
These devices can be electronic or manual, they require a mask, which seeks to give enough pressure to keep the lungs open, prevent their collapse, and improve the passage of oxygen to the blood.
It can also be connected through a breathing tube that is placed by intubation through the mouth, or by tracheostomy or an opening in the neck.
If it is automatic, the device has a computer that has alarms that warn if it requires any adjustment.
In these cases, the patient may have probes or cables that monitor their heart and respiratory rates, as well as their blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
Due to their condition, there are patients who are immobilized to avoid disconnection, because they are essential for their surveillance and control.
One complication is that they form mucus plugs that prevent oxygen from being received, or complications such as pneumonia arise.
These plugs have to be removed therefore and the daily way to do it by sucking with a small probe placed in the tracheal tube.
There is a problem that the ventilator can damage lung tissue from the amount of pressure used to help the lungs process oxygen.
Universities in the country such as the UANL or the Tec de Monterrey, students and teachers are doing research to create ventilators to help counteract the Coronavirus.
