REYNOSA, TAM.-

Anyone can be asymptomatic to Covid-19
BY JOSE LUIS MONTEMAYOR
REYNOSA, TAM.-
From the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, a term began to be coined frequently: the asymptomatic.
These are people who do not have the signs or symptoms of Coronavirus disease, such as fever, dry cough, and tiredness.
The World Health Organization (WHO) claims that some patients may experience pain, a stuffy nose, a sore throat, or diarrhea.
Some people the symptoms are usually mild and appear gradually after two or three weeks, even others become infected but only have very mild symptoms.
“The clinical spectrum of Coronavirus infection, causing Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS-CoV), ranges from asymptomatic infection to severe pneumonia with acute respiratory distress syndrome and other life-threatening complications”, WHO published.
Four out of five people undergo a screening test for the new Coronavirus, according to research by the China National Health Commission.
In Mexico, the “Sentinel” model began to be discussed, which, through surveys, health centers carry out an estimate to control the disease.
In Mexico City alone, there could be more than 14 thousand asymptomatic Covid-19 carriers, after calculating active cases that are recorded daily.
“In more than a month, we have delivered 7 thousand 559 kits, these are the ones that Locatel doctors establish that they have a high possibility of suffering from Covid, that they do not necessarily have the test, we would be thinking that they have had Covid at least, for a month to here (…) there are many active people, of all of them, some asymptomatic”, said Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
The head of government recommended that people not take to the streets unless necessary. He also asked the rest of the population not to leave because it is a question of not increasing the number of infections.
Someone may be tested for Covid-19 and test positive, but they do not have a cough, fever, or tiredness.
In Sinaloa, for example, which is one of the states that whistle red in the daily report of the Coronavirus with 139 deaths until May 2, the officials who tested positive, two of them are asymptomatic, who were isolated and were under medical surveillance, as part of the protocols.
Juan Francisco Contreras, professor of virology at UANL, said that asymptomatic patients are very dangerous to infect third parties with Covid-19.
“An asymptomatic patient does not even need to cough when he speaks, he already excretes the virus. And since we do not have symptoms, we do not know who we interact with, it does not matter if we are familiar or known”, explained the doctor.
The researcher at the Laboratory of Immunology and Virology of the UANL Faculty of Biological Sciences was emphatic when he stated that healthy young people can be carriers of the virus that affects older people or even other young people who unfortunately suffer from chronic diseases. “No one is safe”.
These cases, said the virologist, is the most dangerous due to the risk of infecting third parties.
“We must considerably reduce traffic, but that we are not forced to do it, that we do it ourselves because we are aware of what is happening”, he said.
Contreras stressed that the population is in a situation that can become very serious, it has to isolate itself and avoid going out into the streets as much as possible.
He recognizes that everyone needs financial support to live because their businesses are closed.
“It is understandable that people who live daily have to take risks to bring food home. They would have to considerably increase their hygiene to avoid becoming infected”.
Hand washing, which has become so widespread, is the most recommended measure since the virus stays and lives for a certain time on different surfaces.
“They must have an appropriate distance to serve people. The Covid-19 is not transmitted by direct contact; if I bring it in my hand nothing happens. And to avoid taking it to my mouth, nose or eyes, wash your hands”, said the researcher from the National Research System (SNI).
The researcher pointed out that of the seven coronaviruses that affect humanity, Covid-19 is the most contagious of all.
Unlike SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome), he gave us an example, is that the protein that works as a viral receptor of Covid-19 “clicks” with a greater number of human cells.
“The cells that we have even in the oral mucosa and can be spread by mouth, nose or eyes”, he said.
The scientist assured that people naturally have resistance to viral infections.
There are physical barriers like the skin, mechanical ones like the nose threads, chemical ones like the sweat, the saliva, or enzymes, but if the virus manages to find the receptor in many parts of the organism, it can infect easily.
